A Phantasmagoric Paradise Floating Over K Street
Highlights
- There are a number of Japanese beers available -- including tougher-to-find brews like Hitachino Nest White Ale and Yo-Ho Brewing Company’s Tokyo Black Porter -- as well as almost 20 varieties of sake.
- The sushi bar stays open till 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, so late night partiers can get a bite before heading home (or on to an after hours joint).
Good to Know
- The dark chocolate ginger soufflé is a fantastic finale, but, since it takes 20 minutes to prep, it’s best not to order it if you’re on a tight schedule.
- DJs take over the decks in the back dining room starting at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Full Overview
Located above its sister restaurant Lima, this Asian-Latino fusion hot spot is an otherworldly experience. Flat screens create hypnotizing scenery by playing fantastical undersea footage worthy of a Jacques Cousteau documentary interspersed with a camera feed from over the sushi station. Washes of green, blue, and red light splash across the space, while ruby chandeliers and teardrop light fixtures add a sparkle above. In a stretch of hallway between the front dining room and the lounge-style back bar, a pair of 70’s-style, see-through bubble chairs dangle from the ceiling invitingly.
If you’re interested in sticking to Eastern favorites, the hyper-fresh sushi is both delicious and divinely plated. Generous slabs of buttery bigeye tuna sashimi are fanned out on a leaf that’s balancing on a light wood box of finely crushed ice. The crunchy spicy salmon roll is plated with a racing stripe of garlic-spiked red pepper sauce.
For a more South American experience, crispy skinned salmon steak that’s rubbed in adobo spices with a belt of garlic-laced chipotle mojo is a good bet, as is the Tasmanian crab ceviche perched on a bed of creamy, lime-tossed avocado.
To enjoy a mixture of culinary disciplines, opt for the Chilean sea bass crusted with black soybeans on a hillock of whipped malanga root with a pool of sweet ‘n’ spicy beef ponzu sauce.
Fujimar takes it to the next level and into the great wide beyond.
