Sushi, Seafood and Scenery at the Heart of Adams Morgan

Highlights

  • Take note of whatever specials the sushi bar is offering, since they may include unique sashimi preparations or nigiri that don’t appear elsewhere on the menu.
  • Five Japanese beers are available, including Orion, Koshihikari, and Sapporo.
  • The bar bites menu is worth exploring if you’ve stopped in for a drink, since it includes delectables like roasted chickpeas dusted with cayenne and sea salt, and bacon- cheddar sliders.

Good to Know

  • Every Sunday between 10am and 3pm, the restaurant hosts a drag queen brunch. The all-you-can-eat buffet costs $24.95 per person; the show is priceless. There are no reservations accepted, so come early or be prepared to wait.
  • You wouldn’t know it by looking at it now, but his space used to house the Biltmore Ballroom, which, according to one server, was once the “Studio 54 of Washington, D.C.”
  • Perry’s is not handicap accessible.
  • Rooftop tables are available on a first come, first served basis.

Full Overview

You leave the energetic bustle of Adams Morgan behind when you climb up to this second story restaurant, perched at the corner of 18th Street and Columbia Road. The walls, highlight tiling and velvet curtains are all dusty baby blue, while the furniture and paneling favor rich mahoganies. Low-lit fixtures give the room a dusky sheen, but it’s not so dark that you can’t read the menu. A soulful soundtrack of Marvin, Otis and Kanye plays at just the right volume, never overwhelming the conversation. Score a seat in one of the couches by the windows if you can. That way you can divide your attention between your dining companions, the food and the AdMo action unfolding on the street below. For an East-meets-West Hollywood starter, order a bowl of black edamame (they’re actually green), which taste like buttery movie popcorn. For a lighter meal, opt for fresh sushi. If you’re in the mood for something substantial, seafood dishes like the leek crusted salmon on a bed of gingery carrot puree or the mussels with bacon and tomato are good bets. Nibblers should opt for the twice-frizzled fries or fish tacos dolloped with sour cream, fresh guacamole, and slivered cabbage. By the time you descend the stairs, you’ll be ready to tackle the neighborhood nightlife or head home with your honey.
