Seasonal Fare with a Seafood Focus
Todd Gray’s Watershed is an ode to the sea.
From the sea foam-colored glass tiles that line the bar to the cool blues and greens throughout the 63-seat dining room, the restaurant, the second opened by the husband-and-wife force behind Equinox, channels the water.
The menu provides a meandering sail through east coast fare from New England down to Florida, with a long, lingering stop in the Chesapeake. There’s steamed Maine mussels, a Rappahannock River oyster sandwich with a tomato remoulade, Carolina-style shrimp with creamy grits and spicy andouille sausage and, of course, crab cakes. Sides include bites of hush puppies and fries dusted with Gray’s take on Old Bay seasoning.
When the weather is nice, the patio, with its large umbrellas and white leather bar chairs, is a relaxing spot to kick back and enjoy oysters from the raw bar or a cocktail. The bar pours what they’ve deemed neighborhood-inspired drinks like the U Line – a tequila, lime and coconut water mix; as well as takes on classics like their Lime Collins – a gin, lime juice, cucumber and rose water concoction.
As they say, give a man a fish …
