Full Overview

As its old-fashioned brick facade suggests, McCrossen’s Tavern has been an Art Museum neighborhood mainstay since 1937. Take one step inside, and be prepared for a surprise -- this is not your average local pub. With the welcomed addition of chef-partner Townsend Wentz, a Four Seasons vet, the McCrossen family has spiced up their serious history with some serious eats. Whether you sit in the welcoming bar area or the intimate dining room with its warming fireplace, you’ll enjoy the French flair Chef Wentz adds to the restaurant’s traditional bar menu. Brandade de Morue, a French classic, is a magical medley of baked cod, olive oil, garlic and whipped potatoes, served in an individual cast-iron oval and accompanied by buttery French bread. Choucroute Garnie is a meal fit for a family of four: a sizzling hot skillet filled with French sausages, smoked pork hock, sauerkraut and potatoes in a stock of white wine and herbs. And old bar food faithfuls have been perfected instead of pitched away: McCrossen’s famous wings, burgers and Italian roasted pork sandwiches all continue to be comforting staples of this neighborhood gem.
